Why Our Vinyl Kicks Ass

Since vinyl is having a revival of sorts, we thought you would appreciate knowing what love, time and involvement went into making this amazing piece of collectability. First of all, it's 100% Virgin Vinyl. We opted to go for the higher weight because, well, it's better, more stable and has an awesome feel to it, not to mention how stable it is on your turntable. Since you can't actually press an album that is exactly 120 grams, 160 grams, 180 grams, etc. you have to choose a range of weight. As I mentioned we went with the highest range we could and that's 180-200 grams of virgin vinyl heft. We here at the offices of Girl Bros. are extremely fussy about accuracy and such, so we have weighed several of our own precious baby vinyl records to ensure you are receiving a first rate 180 gram pressing. Guess what we found out? THEY ARE IN THE 190 gram RANGE!! WHAT?! That's right, 190, 196, 195, 200... I mean, really, these are killer heavies meant to be played loud!
As you can see from the handsome picture I have attached, the record is a beautiful color splatter of white, blue and black, mirroring the feel of the artwork. The art, by the way, was done by Rex Ray. If you don't know who he is, google him. For the vinyl version of the package, we asked Rex to expand and change it up a bit from the compact disc since we had more space to work with. We wanted a GATEFOLD! Even back in the day of vinyl releases, if your favorite band made the record a gatefold it was like your birthday every time you put the disk on and studied the artwork, credits, and liner notes. Speaking of liner notes, Lisa wrote something extra special for the release explaining more on the inspiration that lead to the recording of "White Flags..." and why Wendy & Lisa finally found themselves with the perfect opportunity to go for it! Uh-huh. It's cool.
Another extra special little piece of info about our fabu vinyl is that we had it completely re-mastered specifically for vinyl pressing. Now, you might ask, so? Not a lot of artists or labels actually take the time to do this. Sadly, i have to say that again, hardly anyone takes the time to do this. But it makes a huge difference, and we wanted to give you the best sounding musical experience we could. We hunted down the great Paul Du Gré for this task, and he really went above and beyond in fine tuning the master. You will absolutely hear the difference. Thank you again, Paul.
We really wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to press the vinyl the "right way" and hope that when you get yours and hold it, you'll be as excited and eager to play it as we all have been over here at Girl Bros HQ. A big shout to Pirates Press for delivering to us 20 boxes of deliciousness that we hugged and took pictures of when they arrived.
-Renata
PS. Yes, this will be available á la carte.

WOwwww! I can't wait! One of my favorite new releses in years is bringing me back to vinyl. And with a gatefold!!! My love of Wendy and Lisa goes back to the Revolution, and 2 faves -- Around the World in a Day and Parade -- were gatefolds. Back in those days (wayyyy), I decided vinyl vs. cassette on whether or not the album had a gatefold (a term, which i did not know before reading the post, but whatevs!) Is it vinyl day yet?????
March 20th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
I can't wait! By the way-I loved LOVED getting gatefold records back in the day. My fave was Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Lyrics, graphics...I remember being 7/8 years old and asking my mom what a social disease was, what painted ladies were, and what dykes were. She wanted to know where I was hearing this stuff. I told her my Elton John record. So she sat down, read all the lyrics, and then we a had a looong discussion about it all. Good times :)

so happy to see! i have been researching vinyl pressing plants, mastering for vinyl and cd for awhile now (so much has to do with the skill - ears of the person doing the mastering & the equipment, i agree) as we have twenty never before released 20/20 songs (written by Mike Gallo) on 24trk we will be transferring to digital and that will be mastered for both formats. also, i am looking to have masters & stampers made in Japan to be used there for printing, and then, europe. sooo...cd/dvd, vinyl, and digi downloads. we are on the same hi rez audiofile path, and hopefully more will follow. have you been to Turntable Lab on fairfax across from Canters? it's like walking into a shoe store but for turntables...check it out! thanks for sharing and...of course i ordered the deluxe package :-) looks totally fab cheers, birdie
ps give me a shout & photo pass if you need any pix for upcoming events

Again congratulations & thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's becoming more & more of a rarity to have artists actually concerned about the presentation of their "Art"! The time & love you all have put into this is bleeding out even in the pictures. I can't wait to read & enjoy my Vinyl Gatefofd Super Duper Deluxe Glamazon Extravaganza Eleganza hehehe! (Sorry, having a Xanadu Double vinyl flashback)
I remember all the work my old (now defunct) indie label went to when we mastered & pressed our first vinyl, so I can relate to the blood sweat & ears it takes to have done this. I hope more learn by your example, and that this won't be the last "Girl Bros Deluxe" we see. (I've a feeling it won't be...give & it shall be given unto you, pressed down, shaken together & running over)

I must be just way too old and/or have been around way to long or something but yes, I do still have 3 very high end turntables. The Vinyl and Gatefold Album looks to be is a Kick ass works of Art and will be a history collectable item, I order it however to listen to. Already been listening to the Digital Tracks and they are Kick Ass works of Art too. Looking forward to actually using one of my decks to listen to something new. Looking forward to putting it on, warming up the tubes too (I said I was old so, yes, my Amps and Per-Amp uses only Tubes (not transistors or Micro Processors).
Nice to hear new Wendy and Lisa songs.
Congratulations on the release!

The lengths they've gone to create different versions of the album (Vinyl thru FLAC) just proves how serious Wendy & Lisa (and their faithful flock) take their craft and how much pride they have in their work. THAT is heartfelt passion and THAT is the depth and soul of music.
The vinyl doesn't just kick ass, the vinyl DROP-KICKS EVERYONE'S ASS, especially those who don't give things like this a second thought because they're worried about their "bottom line."
Their bottom line just got spanked.
Note to world: Easy = Irrelevant
I am a fan of delicious flavor...
Can i get an amen?
holla...

Ok, having been something of a vinyl collecting nerd for a few years now, and a W&L fan for considerably longer, this is looking AMAZING!
I'm so glad I preordered this baby months ago now. I cannot WAIT to get my hands on this and the CD.
Ooh, are there any plans to re-release Girl Bros. on vinyl? It's the only one that didn't make it to LP as far as I know, and that would complete my nerdy collection.
March 28th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
This is just amazing! I'm a big vinyl collector and I'm so glad I ordered this. I check my UPS box everyday waiting to finally see that little note that tells me I have something in the back waiting for me!!!
Since you guys re-released Girl Bros on digital formats... any thoughts of putting it on vinyl too?
March 30th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
It should be noted that I'm a 'vinyl snob.' I prefer my music to be on LP and I'm thrilled to hear and see the care and quality that has gone into the vinyl pressing of White Flags Of Winter Chimney's. It sounds fantastic, which is something I usually can't say about colored vinyl. I love the mix on it as well. Detailed and warm sounding. GREAT JOB!

Wendy Lisa Renata and ALL involved with this:
I am VERY pleased and happy with my pruchase ( especially the autographed CD). I know I should not but I opened the vinyl to look at the record aka LP and WOW!!! O_O My eyeballs got HUGE it was amazing.
I would like to say thank you both Wendy and Lisa for being there in spirit/song for lifting me up when I was feeling at my lowest when I was young. I remember seeing the both of you in videos (Prince and after Prince), and in Purple Rain and saying to myself "If they can live their dreams I can too" . After listening to a song it would always brighten my spirits especially "Waterfall" I remember the line "People may come, people may go". And remember that line always stuck out saying to me people will come and go in my life just be ME.
Ok sorry for the rambling.
Thanks again,
S

The package came in and I was so excited. When I got inside and opened the box I flipped when I saw the autographed CD. Very cool you guys used a silver marker!!! Lisa, I love the heart-shaped balloon. I have to say I got the Parade vinyl out to match up the signatures on the inside. They still match up... unbelievable!!! God, this is so cool. I scanned it and posted it on Facebook. Hope Lisa doesn't mind I "tagged" her. Then I got the record out. BEAUTIFUL!!! I put it on and played it front to back full blast and it sounds so much better than the mp3's I downloaded. It sounds so warm. I also think it's really interesting that there is a longer than usual silent space at the beginning of each side. Almost done that way so you won't get the grooves dirty from handling it. Very smart. Oh, the special messages in the liner notes was a nice read. So open.
Thanks so much!
Andy
Btw: Please tour!!! Come to Atlanta.

Re: apf1974
So great to hear that you appreciate the excellent sound of the vinyl. Another really cool thing about the LP, in my opinion, is that Wendy & Lisa asked Paul du Gré (the guy who remastered it for vinyl) to eliminate the crossfades between songs that you hear on the CD so that each track has a little space before it and after it (they way they did records back in the early bronze age...). That's not to say that there's anything wrong with the crossfades on the CD--I love the way both formats sound--it's just yet another indicator of the thought and care that went into this...

I was so excited when I recieved my package. This is by far one of the most professional best looking vinyl package I have seen in a long time.
I remember way back in the day how cool it was when you could take the "Paradise Theater" album and tilt side 2 it to see the graphics on the vinal. I thought that was cool.
However, "White Flags of Winter Chimneys" vinyl is not only the most visually appealing album, but an incredible collection of songs. I do not have a turntable, but reading about the specs tells me, that the sound must be beautiful and crisp.
Wendy and Lisa and their team are nothing but a class act! They are so committed to high quality and treat their fans with the utmost respect. I am so grateful I have pleasure to listening to their gifts.
peace out!

It was more years ago than I care to admit, but I distinctly remember staring at David Bowie's Aladin Sane gatefold album when it came out and thinking it was the most beautiful cover ever and that I'd like to design those sorts of things someday. Unfortunately, by the time I got myself into a position to do so 'albums' and their covers has shrunk down to a 5 inch square. That's why I'm so very thilled to have an opportunity to design something large enough to roll a joint on (were I so inclined!). I just got mine this morning and it's so beautiful! Thanks girls for letting me do my thing and I'm so happy people are loving it! You're the BEST!! XOXO

I received my vinyl and signed CD today!!! It's incredible and my first ever Wendy & Lisa vinyl. Although I am from a time that I bought a lot of vinyl and I remember the gatefolds (Prince & The Revolutions Around the World springs to mind). This is a true joy to have. Love the vinyl :). And I hope there will a small club tour coming to Europe soon :). Love you girls.
April 11th, 2009 at 12:33 am

Yes, it would be great if vinyl became popular again. As for me, I adore vynils a lot. I adore the sound. Maybe I like them so much because it reminds me of great moment from my youth. Not long ago I read a post about vynils (found it at pdf search http://www.pdfok.com I guess ). You know there is high chances that they will return again. They won't be so practical as discs but the old-new albums will return.

Some people say that there is no more future in the domain name business. This is simply not true.

Starting a business is a good thing to do. We need to start it right now. To make sure we have a good guarantee in our retirement day. Don't want to depend myself to anyone else if im getting older. bingo
