musicians wendy and lisa have influenced...

hello everyone.  this is my first post here, but it definitely won't be my last.  the site looks fantastic, and i can't wait to talk w&l with everyone.

i want to share a little musical story if i may.  i have been a working musician since graduating from the hartt school of music in 1998.  i have been priviledged to work with many great and talented players and singers over the years.  earlier this year, benji and annie, two friends of mine from france, informed me that they would be recording their debut release in lamu, kenya, and they wanted to hire me to play keys and write some arrangements.  of course, the opportunity to travel to east africa to record music was one i could not pass up.

after hearing their demos and talking with them a bit, it soon became clear that wendy and lisa were a huge influence on their songwriting.  this was fortuitous - as i later told them - because i was also a big fan.  they told me that "white flags" was all they had been listening to lately and that "girl bros" and "eroica" were also in regular rotation.  they wanted their record to have some elements from those albums as well as things like "bitter" by meshell, another fantastic album to which wendy and lisa (along with doyle) contributed.

together with a great band of musicians, we recorded the album in two weeks.  subsequently, i and the drummer flew back to the states.  benji and annie (along with their bassist) flew back to paris where benji and annie mixed the album.  now, after many months, the first single, "humanity", has been released on the internet.  it's won them much praise, and the album will be released soon.

i just wanted to let wendy and lisa know that their incredible body of work has left a profound mark on musicians such as myself and my friends.  we are nothing more than the end-product of all of our influences, and my life would be so rich and fullfilled if i can make art even half as good as yours.  thank you for helping us be ourselves!

the band is called nungan.  the album will be called "the moon and the star".  here is the wendy and lisa influenced title track.  i played piano, harmonium and b-3 and helped with the arrangement.

thanks sunnyfunny!  it's nice that someone else has heard of nungan's work.  have you heard "humanity" as well?  that's also on nungan's youtube page.  i played fender rhodes, percussion, wrote the string arrangement and sang a harmony on that one.
