Was listening to Neil Finn's One Nil today and Secret God is just an AWESOME track! I wish he would have recorded one of the shows that Wendy and Lisa played with him for DVD!
for me it's all about me'shell ndegeocello's 'god shiva' (amongst the other things W&L have done with me'shell)... that song is just so bloody powerful (and funky!). love it.
tho' my current obsession is peter gabriel's 'big blue ball' which credit's wendy but doesn't say what she does... half the time i'm listening to the record trying to guess what she does.
right now, well....i would have to give it up to doyle and lisa getting dirty southern style for Bettye LeVette's Joy.
speaking of Bettye (am I spelling that right?), did anyone watch her on the Kennedy Center Honors? She gave, IMHO, one of the best live performances ever. That whole album is KILLER. I have to go real old school & represent "Bedlam Boys" from Michael Penn's debut album "March" Now here's a dream team combo, Michael Penn/Aimee Mann together with Wendy & Lisa <head explodes>
I have to say that you guys already named my top three associated artists.
#4 might well be the work on Victoria Williams' Musings of a Creekdipper. The "Train Song" was pretty early in the associated artist projects, and made a huge impression on me about what W&L could accomplish with other musicians.
(Although - Bramhall goes without mentioning, right?)
Have to agree with all the above! One Nil is a stunner, one of my favourite albums of all time. Also on the Finn/Girl Bros hitlist is the live version of "loose tongue" that was released as a b-side in the UK to the Lisa-penned Hole In The Ice. Really great song with amazing organ from Ms.Coleman (or should that be Mrs K these days?)
"Train Song" is a hoot - i love its rumbling shuffle beats. And can I share some love for "Let It Be So" from the same album. Beauitful vocals from W & L. I loved the song so much it was played at my (Big Gay) Wedding as we signed the registers etc. Everyone loved the track and I know at least 2 guests used it at their weddings after that. So a big thanks to W&L for that one!

I absolutely agree with you, "Hole in the Ice" is a wonderful track and I think you can easily identify the "handwriting" of Lisa Coleman. Are you really sure that the live version of "loose tongue" on the maxi-cd features lisa as a band member. It was recorded live in london and I suppose that lisa was not there (I did a quick research on the net). But by the way, I think Wendy is a gorgeous bass player. I am obsessed with "turn and run" from the "one nil"-album. I still have to look for "train song", thank you for the information.
that live version of "loose tongue" was taken from the gig at the Palace Theatre in London, Wendy & Lisa were there for sure... just ask @Jaime7722 on twitter - she was lucky enough to be there. Sadly I was not as was sold out, saw Neil a few weeks later but no girl-brotherly appearance - but still a great show with Johnny Marr & Lisa Germano...
"turn and run" is another great track from One Nil. And do check out Musings of A CreekDipper for "train song" and the other W&L inputs - really beautiful album - i'm sure you wont be dissappointed!
The work Wendy and Lisa did on One Nil is amazing, I'd have to agree with what has already been said. I adore Neil Finn, he's such an amazing songwriter and such a nice guy.
I'd also have to add 'Favourite Mistake' to that list. Wendy's guitar on the Sheryl Crow track is just killer . Amazing!
I'd really love Wendy and Lisa to work with someone like Bjork or Liz Fraser or even someone like Fiest, I really love her voice.
".... I'd really love Wendy and Lisa to work with someone like Bjork or Liz Fraser or even someone like Fiest, I really love her voice." In the past The girls have both said they would LOOOOVE! to work with Liz Fraser. Here's another vote for that collaboration. As we all get closer & closer through the wonder of social tech, the odds of get-togethers like that grow & grow <fingers & tweets crossed>
I stand corrected! Of course, the video sequence on youtube settles the case: "LOOSE TONGUE" features Lisa Coleman's synthesizer.
I eventually got hold of a copy of "Creek Dipper" and I enjoy its music very much! Thanx for the advice.
I am looking forward to the two Me'shell albums ("beyond peace" and "bitter") which I have ordered.
On "MySpace" (Girl.Bros) there is an almost complete photo collection of all the artists who Wendy and Lisa worked with. I was surprised when finding about Terence Trent D'Arby. And the site also mentions an all-girls band (called THE LIKE) whose debut album Wendy produced.
(P.S.: The photo collection on "MySpace" is called "the sideshow")
Finally I have been able to get hold of "Bitter" by Me'shell Ndegéocello: the album's atmosphere is so enchanting due to its emotional intimacy. It reminds me of k.d.lang's masterpiece "ingenue" - not only because of the string arrangements which you can find on both albums. Unfortunately the album's booklet does not say in particular which tracks wendy, lisa or doyle have taken part in. Perhaps somebody can help and knows some further details. Please let us know ... Judging strictly by ear, I would bet that Lisa and Wendy can be heard on "Beautiful", the acoustic guitar and the sound of the keys are so girl.bros-ish ... but I might be wrong. I recommend listening to the above mentioned album ... it's worth a close listening.
Yes, Bitter is a beautiful record. We had a great time working on that one. all my friends were there and it came very easy. It was a while back so I don't remember details, but i think I was on every track. We worked every day on several songs. Wendy, however was not on every song so i would trust your ear! I'm sure you nailed it. The only other person who might have been close to sounding like Wendy would have been Chris Bruce, who is producing with Me'shell on a new album right now!
They called for some collaboration but this season was too busy to allow the time. too bad because we are a great team. It wont be the last time... I hope. We love playing with her AND CHRIS!

He's the most elegant of lyricists and puts notes together in only a way that only YOU could improve!
His English trees is a firm favourite of mine, but now you're sending me on a mission to try and track down Secret god!

I don't know if anyone has heard this before but the drum beat from 'Lolly Lolly' is used in 'Idol Talk', a track from the Macross Plus soundtrack. You can hear it here:

The song is in French with a bizarre English phone-sex dialogue overlay. Just an oddity I noticed a few years ago! :)
