Waterfall '89 Killer Bass Playing!

First off, love both of your work! And thanks for being so willing to talk and answer questions... I've really enjoyed it.

Just wanted to say the octaver bass-playing in the middle section of the long version of Waterfall '89 (from the 3" CD) is COLD-BLOODED! You killed it Wendy! That has always been one of my favorite songs to listen to because the bass playing is so funky.

Could you tell us a little bit more about what inspired it, how it felt to you at the time and what octave pedal you used? Was it played on guitar or bass? (I know you're great at both)

The only Prince songs I remember octave pedal guitar being used (on something besides a distorted lead tone) are Susannah's Pajamas (from The Family album of course) and 100 M.P.H. from the Mazarati record. Did Prince inspire the part in any way or was it all you?

Thanks!
