Who besides Prince are Wendy & Lisa's influences?

Curious to ask - who besides prince are your influences? In White Flags, I could hear a Pink Floyd Influence in the chorus section of Red Bike, for example.

I think W+L influenced Prince much more than Prince influenced W+L. Without W+L, Prince gets lost in a perfect, shiny clicktrack. W+L made his music more unpredictable and organic. W+L's music doesn't need that influence.

I've always heard a little Zeppelin in the chorus on Red Bike (the guitar chords, anyway)...and of course the "free! free!" vocals near the end taste like Joni to me...

So, one day during the early 90's I put Fruit at the Bottom on my Dad's car stereo as he drove me to high school. He listens and then proceeds to school me on The Emotions and how much Wendy & Lisa sounded like them. Said I got my musical taste from him and he digs in his glove compartment box and throws their cassette at me. I never listened to it but I've always wondered if there were any truth to his statement.

Your Dad is RIGHT ON!

We often feel like we are copping their style when we do background vocals. they could SING! i'm totally flattered that your pops would hear that in our music.  i remember when we did the vocals on "A Wish for You" (from the unreleased trevor horn record) we actually said the words, "like the 'Emotions'!"  You should listen to that tape. it's gooooooood stuff.
