Favourite moments on the new album?

Sooo many, I know!

One particular moment is when Wendy sings "I'm free" on 'Red Bike', 1 minute in. The guitar strums sound like bonds snapping - just perfect!

Any thoughts? :)

Yeah! I love Niagra Falls too, so... new sounding or...unexpected. I dunno, I can't describe it really, I wish I could. I hate to single out particular songs as every one of them is amazing and the album as a whole is beautiful.

The production on this album is incredible too, it's so cool W&L have total control so we know we're hearing it exactly how they want it!

WOW!!! Try this one, the conference "the art and business of song" with ann powers was actually filmed somehow, the quality is superb. During the long discussion, wendy points out the inspiration for "red bike", she actually refers to Ruth Gordon and her exceptional role in "Harold and Maude".

Well guys...

I have to say I think REDBIKE

is one of the best songs on the cd.

The modal texture of the verse's into the simple hook of the chorus

and the story of a women shunned by the town she lives in for being

excentric and then left alone only to be discovered by another young women

who deeply understands she has the answer to a good life?

It reminds me of herald and Maude the movie.

Harold and Maude (swoons) GREAT film - and an interesting soundtrack

and great concept for red bike! Sort of like a sapphic chocolat? (the film)

I love the drum-breakout on Red Bike...about 2:46 into the song! The bells are wonderful too! They remind me of Sylar:) In addition, I also love the moment during Sweet Suite where the song enters the instrumental phase! That is simply beautiful!

You're so right, Sweet Suite is incredible. I'll put my manly manliness (stop giggling!) on the line and say it rips my heart out at about 5:30 when that futuristic guitar ( I think!) sweeps in. Then it quitens again and I'm thinking phew and at 6:15 another wave hits!

The dames make me their emotinal puppet! Dance puppet, dance!

Okay, no more coffee for me! :P

Yse , great stuff & a great song , right now i think my Favorite is "Ever after" very moody almost dark & really takes you somewhere else & then i love how it kicks into "Salt and cherries" .

"Sweet suite" also is another "moody" song i like , many moods & just a beautiful piece of music .

It would be impossible for me to pick just one favorite tune from White Flags...if I absolutely had to, "Salt & Cherries" would probably be it...especially the guitar licks after Wendy sings "I gotta get closer..."  Tasty!

Then again, the chords on Balloon just kill me.  The A-flat to D-7 knocks me out every time.

I have to name one?!  I like the "I'm Free" lyric on Red Bike.  The first few seconds of White Flags of Winter Chimneys sounds like Closing of the Year.  I like the way Balloon intertwines with the last track of the CD.  "Nestle Near" on Balloon gives a calming feel.  Lisa you just have one of those voices that if your anxious or aggravated it will calm you down and Wendy you have a great voice as well that you just want to rock out too.  "I will not be invisible" on Invisible.  Very powerful.  Like ooo, yes, I know what you mean.  I will not go away, you can't make me, and I'm good at what I do.

Sweet Suite (Begining At The End) 3:40 onwards... quite prossibly the most beautiful, moving music I've ever heard. I love the whole album, but that part I've played over and over.

Just a quick thanks for Sweet Suite..I too thinks its one of the most beautiful songs on the cd. It was the last song i added to the cd I made to play for the rosary when my dad passed. Funny how i play that song over and over in my car and think of my dad. I had all my dads favs on the cd, then added something from the heart...Thank you..

Thanks, Wendy..

Yea he passed on May 8th. Its so surreal. He had been ill for the past 2 yrs (diabetes, etc) but we didnt expect him to go this soon. He was 70. But in the end he still lived the way he wanted to...On his terms. He was stubborn, opinionated and selfish as all heck but he was still my dad. I now that he is in a better place and he doesnt have to worry about tomorrow. I hope u guys play this song at the Largo shows....I will be there with bells on and know that Pops is listening from that special place.....

Thanks, Jennifer

(I don't want to follow JedisonPi's comments, you know I love you girl...*hugs*)

You and I is very, very, calming to me. The melody gets caught in my head for hours and I often hum it all day long. Its one of those songs that you can listen to when your totally spinning out of control and it will bring you right back in. Niagra Falls reminds me of a song from a trippy independant film. I actually listened to it ,like, 7 times in a row once really late one night which is where I probably got that trippy feeling from.  This is definatly an album that a different song will stick out depending on the day, depending on your mood.

I love u too Ickynicy....

I do have to agree with ur thoughts on U and I. I loved the song from the get go. It made me cry the 1st time i heard it. My only wish is that it was longer. It made me think of a special someone I cant seem to let go of.

Hugs 2 u also Nicy.....

Sweet Suite just blows me away with its gorgeousness, sadness and hopefulness.

I love the sparse, beautiful lyrics telling of people who want to be, but sadly aren't, in sync anymore. The way Lisa breathes out the word "friend" as if it's the most beautiful and disappointing word in the world kills me. We will begin at the end, as friends, and celebrate what was and the hope of what is. And then the music tells that whole tale.

God. It's truly beautiful and it moves me.

Or maybe it doesn't mean any of that. :) But it's gorgeous anyway!

I'd have to say "Ever After" is my current favourite song. There's just so many different textures in that song. It's almost like something from Kate Bush's "Hounds Of Love" with something from Mr Bungle's "California".

And at about 2:14 when it's just the guitar thumping. It sounds to me like someone who's just flatlined and their body is coming back with a vengeance. Starts with the heartbeat, then the breathing, then everything's back and more determined than before.

But seriously. That whole song. It's like the first sunrise after the end of the world.

The opening and first two lines to 'You and I' -

I knew instantly it was something really special. In fact I took it in to a really quiet room alone, and prepared myself to feel a little crestfallen - like you do when you're a teen (because you WANT to feel sad) - and unwrapped it slowly so I could savour it - like unwrapping a little box of melancholy tied with a yellow sash!

I think it's a really great 'wilderness' song.

I'd been 'trying' to write a children's story that day - concerning the sun and the moon and what one might say to the other, so it was really fitting.

I am still somewhat unsure however whether it's

sun kills the moon

or

sun kiss the moon

I suspect the former - but the latter has a beautiful judas type thing going on...

perhaps I shouldn't know

(also love the 'can we make it clear' harmonies on invisible -

and the chords to balloon make me squeal)

does anyone get a Pink Floyd-ish type vibe from the track WFOWC? especiallly the melody and lyrics of "I need the dream to feel the greed."

I could go there with you. Moreso for me: overtones of Heart and Fleetwood Mac.
