I Owe Wendy & Lisa An Apology
It all started here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI_8xK0E28Y
My first listen of King Britt's Sweet Suit was underwhelming. In fact, I hated it. I hated it so much it became the first W&L product I didn't purchase. Well, let's fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I am getting dressed for a mixer I was putting on for our local Stonewall Club and started thinking about how I could sneak a W&L song into the playlist for the party. Now, so far, I have played W&L and events with Senator Boxer and a host of other prominent political figures. I kind of consider it my event's lucky charm. Nobody ever really pays attention to the music at these things but it's a fun way for me to get through the hard work of coordinating these beats. Well, anyways...
So, I decide on very short notice to ask the DJ if he could play King Britt's mix and part because I was paying him and part because he's my cousin, he obliged (and dashed over to itunes to purchase). Well, I made the universal mistake that everyone knows not to make, I judged a song by crappy computer speakers. The minute DJ Mike C. blasted Sweet Suite over his loudspeakers, I was hooked. Damn, the 2step influenced beats, the vocal echos, the synth storm...on a dj's speaker all work and work wonderfully.
So thanks Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman for proving, yet again, how "on the pulse" you are when it comes to music making. I will never doubt your creative decisions again...well, unless you release Valley Vista: The New Master. LOL

ps...still keeping my fingers crossed for a David Harness remix of I've Got No Strings. (hey, musiczone folks, remember when I begged for that many many many years ago? never let a dream die, that's what I always say.)
pss...a pic of DJ Mike C http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1044299&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=119444314277&aid=-1&id=1432091242#!/photo.php?pid=1044316&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=119444314277&aid=-1&id=1432091242&fbid=1390874778535

Hey Nicky,
Thanks for sharing your "journey" with that song. Always interests me to hear other people's take on songs/albums. Some songs jump put at me and I adore them instantly, some need more work. For other people it's the exact opposite with the same tracks.
Am pleased you do like the remix, i love it's hypnotic beats and smooth grooves. A real twist on the "cinematic" arrangement of the album version. And I am so with you on the computer speaker thing. So often i am online via laptop and get used the sounds of songs, then when I play on our main PC, which is hooked up to amp/speakers its like hearing a remix or often a whole new song :-)
But hey even if you never got to like it, it's no bad thing. We are an independant bunch of fans and don't have to agree on everything and like 100% of output. I think we all really appreciate the different avenues and pathways Wendy & Lisa have taken over the years, and that they take us on these routes we may never have taken before.
Now I wouldnt have got that little ramble into 140 characters on twitter now would I. All hail the original and mighty mothership!
With ever-after love from your trans-atlantic buddy
x
Al
p.s your cousin is cute, but no match for your fierceness baby! :-)

Thanks for the reply Alan. So uhh, does this post read a lot more serious then I intended? LOL. It was meant to be tongue n cheek.
