Lyrical Conundrums

Anyone else have some lyrics they have not been able to fathom out? sosgemini and i have had loooong chats over some in the past :-)

I love "Vengeance of A Nerd", always great to hear unreleased stuff from the vaults! But one line is driving me crazy!

Third line in.. "put you together with...?" I have played it so many times and every time i now only hear "Spangles made of hay" which is extremely unlikely :-), But maybe given Renata's liking  for British confectionery...

If anyone can put me out of my misery and stop me singing about horse sweets i'd appreciate it.

"Put you together with spackle made of hate" is the way I hear it. Spackle might be an Americanism - it's sticky stuff that you use to fill in drywall and other building materials.

Kat - you are a legend!

Thank you for putting me out of my misery! That sounds much better than my version :-)

Have not heard of spackle before, yet perhaps you had not heard of Spangles. The joys of our shared language...

Who can supervise "my version" of STONES AND BIRTH, a fantastic text, by the way?!

Through my veins I can feel impurity                                                                                       The eccentric shock of my history

If I'll die today, may tomorrow will a quiet place

If I'll live I pray, can my soul not be so far away

I am held together by birth, you see

Shaking the part by my insecurity                                                                               Underlanding the thought of my destiny

With my eyes I can see the misery                                                                                          When it sees speed had to end, got speed, got speed (???)

(Thank you in advance!)

Hey Andreas, here is my take on that great song. Always thought it should have made the cut for Eroica!

Through my veins I can feel impurity
The eccentric shock of my history

If I die today, may tomorrow be a brighter place
If I live, I pray, can my soul not be so far away

I am held together by birth you see
Shaken apart by my insecurity
Unrelenting, the thought of my destiny

If I die today, may tomorrow be a brighter place
And if I live, I pray, can my soul not be so far away

With my eyes I can see the misery
Will is cease? Will it end? God speed, God speed.

If I die today, may tomorrow be a brighter place
And if I live, I pray, can my soul not be so far away
And if I die today, may tomorrow be a brighter place
If I live, I pray, can my soul not be so far away

I am held together by birth you see
I am held together by birth you see

Have a go and see what you think! Happy Listening :-)

Thank you very much for editing my attempt at working out the lyrics; I can appreciate the song even more now. And I couldn't agree more, Stones and Birth is a very sophisticated song and would have made a perfect match to the wonderful eroica songs. (Have you heard, that wendy and lisa played mother of pearl at their avalon-concert? - would have died to be there! Hopefully somebody filmed this gorgeous event!) By the way, tripfaller - is your name a reference to another 12inch flipside :-) ?

"Stones and Birth" - hands down, one of my favorite W&L songs. Ever.

(But then, there is "Balance" which - despite having almost no lyrics to figure out - just slays me.)

@andreas

Glad to be of some assistance :-) I too am gutted about not being at the Avalon. A bit of their Heroes score set is up on youtube, maybe more will follow???

And yes, username is a link to another A Class B Side, in recognition of my often clumsy (alcohol fuelled no doubt) meanderings. was prone to being magnetically attracted to hedges/shrubbery... :-)

@kat mmmmmm Balance. too funky for words :-)

hi... that song is called ,"The Big Goodbye", and was written in the late 70's by me (lisa) and my friend Kris Bell (who also cowrote "this is the life" with us). i think we were 16 or 17 years old.

She is a brilliant lyricist and artist living in Davis , CA.

The lyrics were written about our sisters , but mostly hers because at the time we both felt as if we were missing our big sisters as they started to leave the family ''for skis and silk skirts'', and go off to live on their own with boyfriends and lives that felt foreign to us as little sisters.

It is a beautiful song. Thank you for responding to it. It just happened to come to mind one time when we were on tour, so i played it during a show.... it seemed to go over well, so i played it a few times.

I'll have to think about the lyrics and/or spruce it up and maybe record it sometime for you guys to enjoy officially! it has never been recorded.

cheers.......

and btw... my sister lives with me and we are closer than ever. i love her dearly.

Thank you lisa :) that would be terrific, it is such a beautiful song . I have over the years often found myself humming it and trying to remember pieces ...
